If you are serious about improving or maintaining your physical or mental
health, you must be using a health app.
Before you hear my reasoning about the necessity of you digitalising your approach to improve your health, know that at least 34% of you are already benefiting from some kind of mobile health application.
These benefits may include the types of food you eat because you can maintain an approach to your food, the quality of your sleep because of better habits in your daily lives, the frequency of you exercising, the regularity in maintaining your mediation practice
While you may not be part of this group of early adopters, you have likely considered starting to track your monthlies, manage your weight or use one of the many apps available to improve your exercise or eating habits. So you know, while writing this, I have no doubt in my mind that we are already living in the digital health age. And, trust me, I know better than most that this new wave of health is something that you certainly be part of.

If you are like me, your approach to your health follows an almost obsessive quest to discover the latest emerging research to ensure you have the best chance of living better for longer. If you are unsure that you agree with this comment, allow me to outline some facts about this subject area for you to consider.
Your mental health
We now know that self-monitoring your progress and challenges through a mobile application can lead to positive changes in your behaviour and that a mobile application can also assist you to reduce symptoms that you may be experiencing while also improving your coping skills.
Patients with medical conditions
This is a group where the benefit of using a mobile application to track your health is fairly straight forward. For instance, did you know that the simple process of tracking certain aspects of your health is likely to change the very nature of your relationship with your doctor? Consider the increases to accuracy that result from your health data being captured by a mobile application and the increased understanding that you doctor may have about your health. This means that, if the system is used effectively by both patient and doctor, it is likely that your doctor has an increased capacity to detect patterns and respond to any arising concerns, should they surface.

General well-being If you are part of the population that doesn't have a medical condition or is at risk of challenges to your mental health, research shows that tracking your general health through a mobile application can lead to greater confidence and greater desires to complete your goals.
Older people
If you or a loved one is over 55 years old, take note.
In contrast to what you may have thought about your parents or grandparents using technology, trends are extremely evidently showing that middle-aged and older adults are embracing technology for a variety of reasons. Recent national data reveals that Americans are more digitally connected than ever before. The figures indicate that approximately 70% of seniors are now connected to the internet and that devices are increasingly becoming more part of their daily lives.
The significance of the cited references highlights a very convincing argument that exists for anyone that values or wants to improve their health. That message is simple. If you are serious about your health, there is sufficient data to indicate that using a health app, such as OnTracka, can be the very habit-forming exercise that has compounding benefits to your wider health behaviours.

As you can see, I am a strong believer in the notion that using a mobile application to improve your health is in your best interests. That said, I am also not naive. I understand that the fact that maintaining healthy habits are difficult and the use of a health app is a habit in itself. Also, I am aware of some of the risks associated with excessive time on your devices. However, for me, when measuring the risks vs rewards associated with using a mobile application to improve your health, the evidence seems so blatantly clear that I felt compelled to write this very biased article.

My belief is based on an understanding that not having the discipline to use a mobile application can bring up some of the frustrations that you experience when you skip the gym or have guilt about drinking those extra eight beers with your mates. This doesn't feel good so you avoid the chances of this happening by not using it at all. That is one way to manage it. However, as you already know deep down, the right decision. The decision you won't regret later on is using a health app, like OnTracka now.
For full disclosure, I am the proud Founder and CEO of an Australian tech- company OnTracka that is doing things differently to improve your health. So please watch out for a new major campaign to go with the imminent launch of our latest version release, OnTracka 2.0.
